A new find! I must admit, I was quite excited to come across something I hadn't seen before, as it's a fairly rare occurrence! So what exactly did I stumble upon, you ask? Take a shot at spotting it yourself first...
Did you find it? It's not necessarily something you would recognize as drug related if you aren't familiar with the supplies for IV drug use. Take a closer look towards the bottom right of the photo, and then check out the close up and information below.
Located beside the curb amongst the leaves and dirt is a 2ML clear plastic vial of sterile water for injection. Let's not kid ourselves here - of course I've seen a vial of sterile water for injection. I used them all day everyday for way too long. What I have not seen though, is this particular packaging. Funny enough, just the other day while out wandering around, I thought it was rather strange that I had not seen any blue sterile water vials around the city somewhere in and amongst all of the discarded needles. Apparently the reason I hadn't seen any was that the packaging has changed!
When I was using, local needle exchanges gave out 3ML light blue plastic vials of sterile water for injection purposes, along with the other supplies they offer. This new packaging is smaller (2ML as opposed to 3ML), and is in a clear plastic vial instead of blue. Looks the like mystery of the missing blue vials has been solved! I must admit, it does feel pretty good to run into something I haven't seen before, as it reminds me just how long I've actually managed to stay away from IV drug use. That's a great feeling!
